Elon University's 32nd annual SURF Day brought together the Elon campus community for more than 250 presentations on a variety of research topics.

Among the evening’s award recipients were Brynja Burton ’25, named Major of the Year, and Will Ferris ’25, who earned the James P. Drummond Service Award.

The sport management and strategic communications double major earned the top prize in the Creative AI + Data Image Contest at Elon’s Datafest 2025 with her entry, “Where Acorns Become Oaks.”

The double major in middle grades education and communication design combined her passions to co-lead a STEAM workshop at Smith Middle School in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, guiding students through creative lessons on typography and emotion.

Braxton Mayhew first landed an internship at Ally, a global communications and marketing firm, but the opportunity has now transformed into a part-time role for the Elon student.
