Communications assistant professor Phillip Motley and associate professor Amanda Sturgill published a paper in the Spring issue of Communication Teacher, a peer-reviewed journal published by the National Communication Association.

Paul Parsons, dean of Elon University’s School of Communications, is one of two nominees on the 2013 ballot for the line of succession to the presidency of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication.

Students from Elon Local News and The Pendulum, Elon University's two student-run daily news-gathering organizations, were named finalists in the Society of Professional Journalists Region 2 Mark of Excellence Awards competition. The Pendulum itself also claimed finalist nods.

The segment aired on the eve of the start to the 2013 ACC Tournament in Greensboro, N.C.

The Pendulum, Elon University's daily news-gathering organization, won first place nationally for Best Multimedia Package along with four other awards at the College Media Association conference March 12 in New York.

The journalistic career of Elon alumna Marjorie Hunter '42 was the focus of research presented by Harlen Makemson, associate professor of communications, at a conference at New York University March 9.

Lucinda Austin, an assistant professor in the School of Communications, received $2,500 from the Arthur W. Page Center at the Pennsylvania State University for her proposal, "Examining Principles for Ethical Public Relations Through Use of Social Media."

The Communications Alumni Network recognized Ross Wade, the former assistant director of career services for the School of Communications, as the "World's Most Extraordinary Careers Mentor."
