Final forum of Winter Term ’09 explores service

Some helped the homeless in Washington. Others repaired drywall and cleaned debris from hurricanes in Louisiana and Texas. All learned more about service. Students shared their experiences in recent courses in a forum held Jan. 27 as part of the Winter Term 2009 theme “Emerging Futures: Foresight for Global Good.”
Alumni Screen Documentary at Festival in L.A.

Students help viewers following state DTV tests

North Carolina television viewers flooded the School of Communications with phone calls Thursday as Elon students manned a call center to answer questions about a nationwide conversion to digital television. Regional stations alerted viewers to the DTV change on Feb. 17, 2009, with two “soft tests” that interrupted regular programming for people who rely on antennas to get reception.
Future of information tackled in WT Phoenix Futurama trivia challenge

What is the Phoenix Futurama? It’s a trivia contest tied to the future of information and communication technologies. Nearly 90 students from four different winter term courses with communications themes and a futures focus gathered together Jan. 22 to enjoy competing in this test of their knowledge.
