The associate professor of communication design will oversee the Master of Arts in Interactive Media program, succeeding its founding director, Professor David Copeland.

Funded by the North Carolina Local News Lab Fund and housed in Elon’s School of Communications, the local news initiative will support four student journalists this summer as they cover the impact of COVID-19 and other important stories across North Carolina.

Gayatri Chopra ’23 learned about the scholarship program while participating in The Fellows Experience, a Winter Term class that provides first-year Communications Fellows an opportunity to tour media companies in Florida, meet professionals in their fields, and learn more about their future industries.

During its annual awards ceremony, premiered live on social media and streaming apps on May 14, the school recognized high achievement from students, faculty and staff. It also celebrated the tenure of Paul Parsons, founding communications dean, and David Copeland, founding director of the Interactive Media master’s program.

Though driven apart by the global COVID-19 pandemic, members of the Class of 2020 came together online on Friday, May 22, with their friends, families and Elon faculty and staff to celebrate all they have accomplished during the past four years and receive their degrees.

The 30 members of Elon’s Master of Arts in Interactive Media program were honored for their dedication even during uncertain times globally during the program’s virtual degree conferral ceremony on Wednesday, May 20.

The annual event held on May 19 – the evening before the iMedia Commencement ceremony – provided 30 graduate students an opportunity to publicly present their thesis projects, illustrating the culmination of knowledge they obtained during the 10-month program.
