With a new academic year comes new people, new buildings and new opportunities. Here’s a look at some of the exciting new additions to the Elon University campus for the 2024-25 academic year.

Planning Week marks the beginning of the academic year as faculty and staff prepare to welcome back students to the Elon campus. Look at some of the familiar favorites this year and also some new additions to Planning Week.

Ayesh Awad '24, Pagnapech Ngoun '26, Murilo Ferreira Lopes '27, Nicolas Alvarez '27 and five faculty Emily Elrod, Kristen Mazur, Brittany Riggs, Hwayeon Ryu and Aaron Trocki presented at MathFest, the annual meeting of the Mathematical Association of America on August 7-10, 2024 in Indianapolis.

The article shares an open access research tool for studying animal communication that was developed as part of Evora’s Elon Lumen project. The work was done by Evora, collaborators from the University of Missouri and Curtin University and Hamel. The article appears in a special issue of the journal Entomologia Experimentalis et Applicata.

Andrea Baca ’26 returned to her home country of Peru this summer for an internship with the Museum of Contemporary Art, an opportunity offering the perfect blend of her Elon studies.

Fentuo Tahiru spent his senior year at Elon before graduating from the University of Ghana. He is one of that nation’s leading sports broadcasters and was featured by Raleigh, North Carolina’s WRAL this week.

A materials testing study being piloted at Elon in collaboration with Duke University’s Center for WaSH-AID, Oldcastle Infrastructure, a CRH Company and Triangle Environmental Health Initiative was featured in the July-August edition of International Filtration News.

Ryu was also recently selected as an inaugural recipient of a fellowship by the Sylvia Bozeman and Rhonda Hughes EDGE Foundation that advances the research careers of women in the mathematical sciences.
