September Theme: Waste Reduction

Monthly themes are new this year to the Office of Sustainability. Each month a new topic will be chosen to concentrate on through our events, advocacy tactics and social media. We are asking students to also help spread the word and educate the others about the monthly theme by participating in events and living out the theme in their daily lives.

Zipcar Membership Discount

September 1, 2011

Zipcar has announced that it will be giving Elon students, faculty and staff a membership discount. New members will receive $10 off their first year Zipcar membership and the hourly rate for Ford vehicles on campus will be reduced by $1 an hour.

Students and faculty meet for Sustainability Town Hall Meeting

Students and faculty gathered in Lindner Hall on Sept. 23 for a sustainability meeting hosted by the Student Sustainability Council. The meeting was an open forum for everyone to discuss sustainability efforts on campus, promote environmental awareness and propose new ideas for the upcoming year.

The Princeton Review names Elon one of the nation’s “greenest” universities

Elon’s commitment to sustainability has earned the university the distinction of being named one of the “greenest” schools in the country. The university’s profile is included in The Princeton Review's Guide to 286 Green Colleges, which was released April 20 and profiles the nation’s most environmentally-responsible campuses.

Brian Nienhaus selected as Periclean Faculty Leader

Associate professor Brian Nienhaus has been selected as the first Periclean Faculty Leader at Elon for his “Business and Sustainability” course, part of the new Periclean Faculty Leadership Program to champion civic engagement in the classroom, on the campus, and in the community.

Elon to dedicate Lindner Hall – TODAY at 4 p.m.

Elon University leaders will dedicate Martha S. and Carl H. Lindner III Hall on Friday in an afternoon ceremony that welcomes back to campus the donors whose gift helped make the building possible. Students, faculty and staff are invited to attend the 4 p.m. dedication on the north patio facing the Academic Village.
