Environmental Studies

The Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning is pleased to announce the recipients of the 12th annual Diversity and Inclusion Grants for the 2023-24 academic year. Since 2011, this grant program has supported small faculty teams in developing projects focused on inclusive pedagogies, assignments, content and strategies to foster learning about human diversity.

Amanda Chunco, associate professor of environmental studies, named CATL Scholar for the 2024-25 and 2025-2026 academic years.

Dozens gathered at the Elon community garden on East College Avenue for the annual festival on Friday, Oct. 27. It was coordinated by the help of students in Professor Michael Strickland’s classes. 

Elon Law alumnus Matt Krueger-Andes L’11 and sister Juli Krueger-Andes have made a gift to endow a scholarship to honor their father, David Andes ’65. The David A. Andes and Family Internship Endowment will provide financial assistance to students pursuing these life-changing experiences.

Chunco, associate professor of environmental studies, was part of a consortium of scientists who studied the question of whether some of the problems with reproducibility might result from decisions scientists make when analyzing data.

The event was planned by Elon's leadership team overseeing a six-year, $377,800 grant from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute to transform first-year STEM experiences and promote belonging in STEM programs among historically underrepresented groups.

Twelve sustainably designed homes will become the Loy Farm Living-Learning Community, a model of green architecture where students thrive by living harmoniously with nature. The LLC will open in fall 2024 with all 12 homes completed by fall 2025.

Environmental Studies students partner with local small business, Kindred Seedlings Farm, in a community-engaged course this spring to help break ground on a new agricultural endeavor.
