Gary Bailey and Barth Strempek release recording for Haitian earthquake relief

In the 1970s and early 1980s Gary Bailey, former Elon faculty member in human service studies and currently counselor in Health and Counseling Services, was a member of a popular regional R&B group called “Brief Encounter.” A couple of years ago Gary discovered that Brief Encounter has become one of the leading cult R&B groups among record collectors. He was shocked when he noticed that copies of their first album were selling for over $2,000 on eBay. The most recent sale was over $2500. Brief Encounter is back in business and about to release its first recording in nearly 30 years, all for the benefit of Haitian Earthquake Relief.

Times-News executive editor Don Bolden, retired physical plant assistant director Stanley Greeson and retired professor Linda Thompson Weavil received Elon Medallions on Aug. 23, 2010, in an annual ceremony that celebrates the highest honor a person can receive from the university.
