Christina Benson, business law professor in the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business, presented a paper at the Academy of Legal Studies in Business (ALSB) conference, held Aug. 4-8 in Denver. Benson’s paper, “US Automotive Industry Bailout Programs: Avoiding WTO Potholes on the Road to Economic Recovery,” is part of a larger project in which she is looking at how US stimulus and bailout programs include provisions that may violate the country’s commitments under World Trade Organization agreements, and whether or not aid to ailing US industries is likely to succeed in making them more globally competitive. Benson’s paper will be published in the 2009 ALSB proceedings.

President Leo M. Lambert, Love School of Business Dean Mary Gowan, five business students and other friends of the university sounded the opening bell of the New York Stock Exchange on March 9 on a day when Wall Street celebrated Elon's academic achievements.

David Noer, a professor emeritus in the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business, had a column published in BusinessWeek this month in which he offers company executives ways to manage stress when they are forced to make layoffs.

The Love School of Business and Elon Career Services are co-hosting a recruiting event for employers on Friday, August 14, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Koury Business Center. Support for community nonprofits is something many people feel is a moral imperative. Kelly King, the top executive at North Carolina-based BB&T, believes corporate and individual giving makes good business sense, too. King spoke at Elon University on July 22, offering his economic outlook and explaining why support for agencies like the United Way is crucial in the current era.

Gary Palin, executive director of the Doherty Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership, welcomed 76 social entrepreneurship scholars, students and practitioners to the 2009 SEEC Europe workshop held in Segovia, Spain, on July 9-11.
