School of Communications Alumni

During their Winter Term “fly-in” experience, seven graduate students in the Interactive Media master’s program traveled to Western Europe, filming a short documentary and gathering multimedia content to promote a community space dedicated to minority languages. 

The Elon alumnus produced a full-length documentary titled “A Year with Betty Gold” that chronicles the life of acclaimed artist Betty Gold. The final product earned raved reviews at an annual festival in Wisconsin.

Led by Assistant Professor Mark Cryan, seven students attended the four-day event that drew representatives from all 30 Major League Baseball teams and their 160 minor league affiliates. Among those on hand were several Elon alumni now working in professional baseball.

Lillian Engel ’19 placed in the top three of the American Cinema Editors’ Student Editing Competition, earning an invitation to the 2018 ACE Eddie Awards held on Jan. 26 in Beverly Hills, California.

Following their selection, cinema and television arts majors Patrick Wei ’20, Hunter Strauch ’18 and Katie Shannon ’18 received $15,000 to produce a 35-second film for the student competition.

During their Jan. 23 presentations in Turner Theatre, graduate students in the Interactive Media master's program shared their Winter Term “fly-in” projects and their experiences traveling to Costa Rica, Haiti, Nicaragua and the Netherlands. 

Wes Durham ’88, Tom Kosempa ’91, Lance Stewart ’92, Kevin Roley ’93 and Erik Kendall ’11 all played prominent roles in the Charlotte-based production company’s Jan. 21 telecast.

Assistant Professor Shaina Dabbs' Professional Sport Management class met with executives and staff members working for the Carolina Panthers, Knights and Checkers, including a trio of Elon alumni who handle ticket sales for the city’s AHL affiliate.  

The WSOC-TV reporter was recognized as one of Charlotte’s “10 local media minds to watch in 2018.”
