Elon’s Look and Feel

Elon’s visual identity is more than just how we look — it’s how we communicate who we are. Through consistent use of photography, graphics, color and typography, we create a recognizable presence that reflects our values, builds trust and fosters lasting connections with our audiences.

Understanding Our Logos

Elon’s signatures and wordmarks are essential elements of our visual identity. They are instantly recognizable representations of Elon and have been developed to encapsulate our unique brand and voice. Consistent, correct use of our marks is vital for successful communication.

The wordmark consists of the words “Elon University” styled with specific font, size, colors and spacing. The signature combines the wordmark with Elon’s shield design to create a distinct, recognizable emblem.

Why We Avoid Custom Graphics and Logos

As Elon continues to grow and launch new programs, it’s tempting to want to create individual logos or marks. However, our story is strongest when told within a consistent, disciplined framework.

Our official brand marks are valuable institutional assets, protected by both law and university policy. Typically, outside of approved Athletics materials, an official university signature or mark should be the only Elon brand identifier used on print marketing materials, websites, merchandise and other communications intended for a public or off-campus audience.

Limited Exceptions

Occasionally, unique treatments or custom graphics are used, but these are only created under special circumstances and are always developed with University Communications oversight. Some examples include:

Small space exceptions

When space is limited by format, such as social media profile images, units with official Elon marks may use approved shorthand graphics that maintain recognition and consistency.

Promotional Materials

For apparel, signage or giveaways, University Communications provides approved setups when full marks don’t fit. These are limited to the specified items and are not replacements for official marks.

Strategic Initiatives

University Communications may create sanctioned marks for major university efforts, such as Elon LEADS or HealthEU. These are limited in scope and always developed in partnership with UC.

Internal Use

Custom graphics for internal audiences can be approved by UC, but they cannot replace official marks externally or mimic the look of Elon’s branding.

Why This Matters

A strong, unified brand strengthens Elon’s reputation, builds trust with external audiences and honors the incredible community we represent.
