Pendulum wins several Best of Show awards from Associated Collegiate Press

The Pendulum, Elon University's weekly student newspaper, was honored with Best of Show awards from the Associated Collegiate Press on the last day of ACP's joint convention with College Media Advisers Oct. 31 in Louisville. Representatives from media publications who attend the conference may enter the Best in Show competition. All entries are submitted and judged on site.

The Pendulum placed first in a Best of Show newspaper competition, and the Pendulum Online took first in Publication Website Small School. The paper’s Fall Sports 2010 Preview also placed sixth in the Special Edition Four-year category.

The Pendulum and The Pendulum Online were also honored for being finalists in the Newspaper Pacemaker and Online Pacemaker competitions. In addition, Caroline Matthews ’10, the former design chief at the Pendulum, won second place in the Infographic competition. Adviser Colin Donohue won an Honor Roll Adviser Award from College Media Advisers, as well.

Pendulum student leaders Anna Johnson (managing editor), Jack Dodson (news editor), Caitlin O’Donnell (news editor), Lauren Ramsdell (A&E editor), Gabriela Szewcow (design chief) and Melissa Kansky (multimedia editor) were in attendance at the ACP/CMA national college media convention in Louisville from Oct. 27-31 with Donohue.

On Oct. 30, Colonnades, Elon’s literary magazine, was honored with a 2010 national Magazine Pacemaker Award from ACP. The Pacemaker is the highest honor ACP gives to its members. Entries were judged based on their content, quality of writing and editing, photography, art and graphics, layout and design, and overall concept or theme. Colonnades submitted its most recent issue, “Public Spaces,” which was produced under the leadership of Arie Saint ’10.
