Elon's Sigma Kappa chapter honored with Three Stars Award of Excellence
At the recent annual national meeting of Sigma Kappa Sorority, Elon University's Kappa Zeta chapter received, for the 10th year in a row, the organization's highest honor - the Three Stars Award of Excellence.
The Kappa Zeta chapter was the only North Carolina chapter to be so honored this year and one of only seven nationally. The award is based on the organization's commitment to maintaining its founding ideals, which include strong scholastic achievement, philanthropic contributions, service and leadership to the campus and local communities, alumnae relations, and sound financial management.
More than 100 women make up the chapter membership. Its GPA is always among the highest of all Greek organizations and is always higher than Elon's average GPA. Every year the women engage in philanthropic endeavors to support both the Maine Sea Coast Mission (a philanthropy adopted by the founders of Sigma Kappa who attended Colby College in Maine) and Alzheimer's Research.
The women major and minor in all schools of the university; they are represented in all of Elon's Fellows Programs as well as the Periclean Scholars and hold student leadership positions across campus.
