With populations of 1.6 million and 1.7 million respectively, these areas contain renowned furniture factories, top golf courses, shopping opportunities and historic sites, as well as hiking, swimming and skiing opportunities. From the North Carolina Zoo in Asheboro and the North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh to Pilot Mountain, the 1,400 high climb just over an hour from campus, and Bennett Place, the site of the largest troop surrender of the American Civil War, the explorative, educational and experiential opportunities are numerous.
