"Not only am I a parent, I am a partner of the Elon Academy."           –Beta class parent

Family partnerships with the Elon Academy do not end with high school graduation. Instead, the Elon Academy shifts its focus from college ACCESS to college SUCCESS. With nearly one quarter of United States first generation college students not returning to college for a second year, admission to college is not a guarantee of graduating from college (Cushman, 2007).

To continue to provide customized information and support to our alumni families, they are invited to several events each year. The Transition Retreat is held on Elon’s campus in the summer prior to high school seniors starting their first year of college. Families of the most recent high school graduates come together to learn about and discuss important topics such as finances, campus safety, and the emotional experience of sending your student to college. Families also enjoy hearing from a panel of alumni parents who have current college scholars.

The Alumni Holiday Luncheon, held on campus in December, is another opportunity for families of college scholars to reconnect and share experiences, as well as receive important information about financial aid, supporting their scholar’s adjustment to campus life, and planning for summer break.

In its fifth year in existence and with two classes of scholars in college, the Elon Academy looks forward to continued partnerships with our scholars and families as they transition out of college and on to graduate school or to a successful career.
