Elon Academy Ambassadors Program

The Elon Academy Ambassadors Program launched in early 2012. The goal of this initiative is to partner with elementary and middle schools in Alamance County to promote college access awareness. Our Elon Academy high school scholars plan and implement activities for the younger Alamance County students.

Our hope is to begin educating the youth of Alamance County about college opportunities as early as possible. Student and family attitudes toward college access develop at a very early age and, through the Elon Academy Ambassadors, we hope to nurture the development of positive attitudes and realistic goals in these K-8 students.

Current Elon Academy Ambassador Projects:

North Graham College Access Month: Our sophomore scholars will be traveling to North Graham Elementary during the months of February and March to lead activities that will introduce K-5 students to college knowledge. One team of sophomores will visit K-3 classrooms, one team will visit 3-5 classrooms, and a third team is creating a college fair for the 3-5 classes to visit on March 1st. Our scholars will be reading books to every classroom about college and these books, written by Anne Aldridge Webb, will be donated to each classroom.  These books are “Appalachian A to Z” and “Carolina A to Z”. As a culminating event, Anne Aldridge Webb will visit the school on March 2nd to speak with the North Graham Elementary students in two assemblies about the importance of literacy and the value of a college education.

Partnership with Ramp-It-Up! After School Programs at Broadview Middle School and Graham Middle School: Elon Academy scholars will be visiting with 6th, 7th, and 8th, graders from these middle schools during visits in March, April, and May. Elon Academy Scholars will be leading book clubs with these students. The students and scholars will engage in these books clubs through a combination of face-to-face and virtual meetings. Upon completion of the novels, the middle school students will be allowed to keep their books. The partnership will culminate with a field trip to Elon University to take a tour of the college’s campus.
