Mission Statement

The mission of the Purchasing department is to provide goods and services at a competitive price as support for the mission of the University.

Elon University Statement on Ethical Procurement

In keeping with the values expressed in its mission statement, Elon University recognizes the importance of ethical practices and social responsibility in procuring goods and services. Elon is an affiliate of the Fair Labor Association, promoting fair and decent conditions in the production of goods bearing the university’s logo. Elon also strongly encourages all suppliers and licensees to comply with international, federal, state and local laws, as well as generally recognized ethical and industry standards related to environmental sustainability, fair labor practices and human rights. Elon University seeks to do business with organizations that manage their operations consistent with the university’s values and mission.

Nondiscrimination Policy

The university seeks to provide an educational community and workplace free of prohibited discrimination and harassment. To that end, it has adopted the following nondiscrimination statement: “Elon University does not discriminate on the basis of age, race, color, creed, sex, national or ethnic origin, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, or veteran’s status (collectively, “Protected Categories”) in the recruitment and admission of students, the recruitment and employment of faculty and staff, or the operation of any of its programs.” Consistent with our nondiscrimination statement, the university does not tolerate discrimination or harassment of employees, students or other individuals associated with the University including, but not limited to, vendors, contractors, and guests on the basis of any of these Protected Categories.
 

Sustainable Purchasing Guidlines

Through its purchasing choices, Elon has the ability to influence the market and educate the campus and surrounding community. The University has adopted Sustainable Purchasing Guidelines to aid decision makers in purchasing environmentally preferable products and services. The Guidelines include a number of general, overall strategies as well strategies in specific areas including source reduction, operations efficiency and toxics and pollution expressed in its mission statement, Elon University recognizes the importance of ethical practices and social responsibility in procuring goods and services.

The Purchasing department is here to help provide goods and services for the entire University. By performing this aspect of the business process, Purchasing can help individuals concentrate on their specialized areas.
