Academic Success and Retention

Academic Enrichment Program

The Academic Enrichment Program, led by Lauren Flinn, is a great program to help students get adjusted to academic life here at Elon. This is done by Co-Curricular Advisors.  Co-Curricular Advisors are Elon University Faculty and Staff who support first year students of diverse populations with their transition to college and participation in co-cirrcular programs. Co-Curricular Advisors will help students identify meaningful experiences on campus that compliment their academic and professional pursuit. Co-Curricular Advisors and students will work together to develop a Co-Curricular Student Development Transcript. See a full list of our co-curricular advisors

Phillips-Perry Black Excellence Awards

The Phillips-Perry Black Excellence Awards Banquet started in 1993. At the awards ceremony each spring, Black students who have shown excellence in academics by maintaining a minimum grade point average of 3.2 are recognized. This banquet serves as incentive to all black students to continue to excel academically. In fact, the graduation rate of students recognized at the ceremony is 100%. See more information about the Phillips Perry Awards.

Graduate School Preparation

The Multicultural Center provides graduate school preparation. There is some GRE and LSAT preparation given through the faculty fellow, Crystal Anderson. Dr. Anderson will do some one on one advising as well as hold some meetings regarding graduate school preparation.

African American Resource Room and Wall of Fame

Located in the Multicultural Center,  the African American Resource Room serves as a study area, gathering place, and meeting facility. The resource room provides a healthy setting for faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds to explore and develop appreciation for cultural diversity. The African American Wall of Fame serves as a historical archive and exists to preserve and highlight important events that have taken place since 1983, when the first Black day student attended what was then known as Elon College.

Watson and Odyssey Programs

The Leon and Lorraine Watson North Carolina Scholarship Program and the Odyssey Scholarship Program provide financial assistance and academic and social mentoring to North Carolina students who have demonstrated self-determination, community involvement, and academic excellence. This support is intended to give students opportunities to fully participate in the many rich experiences at Elon, as well as, to contribute to the intellectual and social climate of the university through their active citizenship.
