Why I became a mentor: "I became a mentor because as a mentee of the S.M.A.R.T. Mentoring program I truly felt that my mentor guided me and supported me to have a great college experience. My mentor also worked very hard with me to make sure that I was on top of all of my work, organization skills were developed and when I struggled academically we worked on strategies to improve those struggles. He truly cared for me and made me feel important to the program and to him. Because of these reasons I want to spread the knowledge that I was taught and mentor the incoming mentees. Not only do I want to become a dynamic leader, but I want to give back to a program that opened it's doors for me to be successful. I want to contribute to the success of these students because I want them to have the same opportunities as I did to do well in college. I will work non-stop to show that I care about their future and their growth as students and leaders."
What I am looking forward to most about mentoring first year students: "What I look forward to the most about being a mentor for first year students is having the opportunity to guide these students, use and develop leadership skills to be able to succeed in all aspects of college and the S.M.A.R.T. Program."
My best memory about being a first year student/something I struggled with: "My best memory about being a first year student was having teachers that instead of writing information on the board so I could copy it, they would teach the content of their lessons as if they were stories. Not only were students engaged in their work, but it made class interesting and exciting. Something that I struggled with was my academics. I'm working very hard to gain back the work ethic that I lost and improving upon my organization skills. Academics are my main priority and that should be placed above everything."
