John Sellers ’66 and wife Faye were recognized by the Shenandoah chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals during a Nov. 13 ceremony.
Longtime Elon supporters John ’66 and Faye Sellers were honored with an Individual Philanthropist award from the Shenandoah chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals.
The award was presented Nov. 13 during the chapter’s 2017 National Philanthropy Day Awards Ceremony and Luncheon at James Madison University, where John served as director of financial aid for many years.
After he retired from that position and Faye retired as a nurse, the couple began volunteering at the Sentara RMH Medical Center guest services desk. They have been at that post for 12 years and are now also responsible for the scheduling of more than 170 volunteers. They have always had a deep connection with the Rockingham Memorial Hospital as it was where they and their children were born.
“We discovered, or we didn’t discover, the satisfaction and the joy of volunteering until later in life,” said John Sellers as he accepted the award. “Hopefully, this won’t happen to you. … It’s important to get involved.”
Besides their work at the medical center, John and Faye Sellers are active at Elon. Since graduating in 1966 with a degree in history, John has been a loyal financial supporter of Elon’s athletics programs. Earlier this year, the couple endowed the John H. ’66 and Faye T. Sellers Elon Engagement Scholarship.
