Mary “Janie” Salter, who served as director of the R. N. Ellington Health and Counseling Center for 26 years, died Feb. 23.
Mary “Janie” Salter, who served as director of Elon's R. N. Ellington Health and Counseling Center for 26 years, died Friday, Feb. 23.
Salter joined Elon in November 1973 and retired in June 1999. She returned to campus four months later to assist with temporary student health services duties until December 2001. In all that time, she took care of thousands of students, faculty and staff.
She is survived by Roy Salter, Jr., her husband of 62 years, three children, four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
