Inauguration preview: 'Celebrating Elon's Past, Present and Future'

A look ahead at the events surrounding the Oct. 18 inauguration of Connie Ledoux Book as Elon's ninth president.

The university community is invited to gather on Friday, Oct. 19, at 7:30 p.m. for “Celebrating Elon’s Past, Present and Future,” an event that combines a dramatic reading recounting significant milestone’s in the university’s history with performances by a variety of students and faculty. 

Whitley Auditorium, which opened in 1924, will provide the backdrop for a broad range of performances that will highlight the university’s history and showcase the talents of members of the university community.

A variety of narrators will deliver selections from “From a Grove of Oaks: The Story of Elon University,” written by George Troxler, professor emeritus of history and university historian. Those selections will offer looks at the history and stages of Elon, the first student organizations, the talents of students past and present, Elon’s Greek life, the growth of the university and modern Elon. 

Interspersed throughout the program will be musical selections performed by faculty and students from a variety of genres. 

“Celebrating Elon’s Past, Present and Future” will be another opportunity during an important milestone in the university’s history to celebrate the people, resources and connections that make Elon the strong community that it is.
