School of Education faculty present at early childhood conferences

Mary Knight-McKenna and Heidi Hollingsworth, associate professors of education, presented at the conferences of the Division for Early Childhood (DEC) of the Council for Exceptional Children, and the North Carolina Infant/Young Child Mental Health Association.

Mary Knight-McKenna and Heidi Hollingsworth, associate professors of education, presented at the conferences of the Division for Early Childhood (DEC) of the Council for Exceptional Children, and the North Carolina Infant/Young Child Mental Health Association.

Knight-McKenna and Hollingsworth presented on their work in Strong Beginnings for Babies (SBB). Funded with grants from Impact Alamance and Elon University’s School of Education, SBB was a two-year community-based research project designed to support infants’ early language development through family interactions. In particular, the researchers investigated which language promotion strategies families found helpful and easy to use within their family routines, as well as the effectiveness of the program overall.
