Elon places fourth out of 22 teams in Templeton Business Ethics Case Competition

Seniors Connor Dwyer and Sabrina Ramos presented an analysis and recommendations for a case centered on the gender diversity gap on corporate boards in Pennsylvania.

A Martha and Spencer Love School of Business team placed fourth in the Templeton Business Ethics Case Competition, held Feb. 21-22 at Stetson University in Deland, Florida.

Connor Dwyer ’19, a management major from Andover, Massachusetts, and Sabrina Ramos ’19, a management and international business double major from Fort Myers, Florida, represented Elon in the collegiate competition. They were accompanied by Pat Bell, lecturer in management and the team’s mentor.

Twenty-two teams were tasked with researching and analyzing the gender diversity gap on corporate boards in the state of Pennsylvania. In the role of an independent advisory group, they recommended whether there should be support for enactment of legislation addressing the gap.

“Templeton was a great chance to apply skills and abilities developed in the classroom to a relevant, real-world issue,” Dwyer said. “Sabrina and I approached the case with the goal of creating a solution that was achievable and realistic.”

The other participating institutions were Belmont University, Bethune-Cookman University, Campbell University, Clemson University, Florida Gulf Coast University, Georgetown University, Iowa State University, Jacksonville University, LaSalle University, Northern Illinois University, Pennsylvania State University, Simon Fraser University, St. Mary’s University, St. Petersburg College, United States Naval Academy, University of Calgary, University of Florida, University of Massachusetts-Amherst, University of North Dakota, University of South Florida-St. Petersburg and Wake Forest University.

“The competition was a great experience since we got to meet other teams from all over North America, made it as finalists, and applied what we have learned as HR students to our presentation,” Ramos said. “Connor and I spent a lot of time together working on our presentation and delivery, so it was rewarding being recognized for our hard work.”

“Templeton was a privilege to attend,” Dwyer added. “I would like to extend a special thank you to all in the LSB who gave Sabrina and I this opportunity.”
