Elon joins the Common App for undergraduate admissions

Elon’s newest online platform went live on August 1, 2019, providing prospective students with a third option to apply for admission to the university.

Elon University is now a member of the Common Application, an online platform that allows students to learn about colleges and apply to any of more than 900 member institutions in 50 states and the District of Columbia, as well as in Canada, China and many European countries. Last year, the Common App was used by more than three million applicants, counselors and teachers.

The Common App is managed by the staff of a not-for-profit membership association (The Common Application, Inc.) and governed by a 17-member Board of Directors drawn from the ranks of college admission deans and secondary school college counselors. Its mission is to promote access, equity and integrity in the college admission process. Common App helps reduce common barriers to the college application process,  including making the fee waiver process more efficient for students in need. Each year, more than one million applicants use the Common App. One-third of those applicants are the first in their family to pursue a college degree.

The Common Application is one of three ways prospective undergraduates apply to Elon. They can also use Elon University application and the Coalition for College, an application platform that includes more than 140 colleges and universities. All candidates applying to Elon should only submit one application per admissions cycle.

“The Common App continues to grow in popularity as students and their families look for the best ways to research their many options for higher education and navigate the admissions process,” says Greg Zaiser, vice president for enrollment. “As a new member of the Common Application consortium, we are even better positioned to help undergraduates and families learn about our university and simplify and streamline their Elon application.”

In addition to accessing the online application system, by joining Common App, Elon is helping to make additional tools and services available to students and those who support students through Common App, including financial aid and scholarship information, virtual mentors, online portfolios, and a library of counselor resources available in English and Spanish. Common App also offers 24/7/365 technical support to all applicants and recommenders using the system.

For fall 2020, Elon expects to receive more than 12,000 applications to enroll a first-year class of about 1,725 students. Through the admissions process, the Office of Admissions evaluates and selects a class of talented students from across the country and around the world.

Both the Early Decision and Early Action application deadlines are Nov. 1, 2019. The Regular First-year application deadline is Jan. 10, 2020. To learn more about Elon’s application process, admissions requirements and deadlines, visit http://www.elon.edu/apply.
