From the R.N. Ellington Center for Health and Wellness

June 2, 2017

Dear New Undergraduate, Graduate or Special Student:

Are you ready to become a member of a highly engaged academic community where you will be transformed in mind, body and spirit? The staff at the R. N. Ellington Center  for Health and Wellness welcomes you to Elon University and  we look forward to working with you as you lead a life of health and wellness! Before you become a member of the academic community there are several pieces of preparation that are essential. Please note the four student health and wellness processes explained below are  at Elon by the date indicated.

Submission of the Health Form and Required Immunizations
University Policy and State Regulations require that new students submit a health form and record of all required immunizations before July 1. North Carolina Public Health law requires proof of immunization to protect you and others while you are attending Elon University.  You DO NOT need to complete a physical exam unless you are required to do so as a requirement for athletics or  your academic program (PA and DPT only). You should review the  immunization requirements  and recommendations as they apply to you. We recommend you complete the on-line forms and immunization documentation through your health services portal, although paper forms are also available.  All required forms and additional information may be found here.  If you have questions about health or immunization requirements, please e-mail Student Health Services staff. You will receive  responses and periodic updates regarding your completion status through your elon.edu email account. You should check that account daily.

Medical Insurance
Elon University requires that  all students be in compliance with federal law with regard to health insurance requirements.  The University does not offer a University sponsored insurance plan. Many students are already enrolled in qualifying insurance plans through parents, spouse, partner or guardian plans. If you are not currently enrolled in a federally compliant qualified insurance policy, you may want to consult the affordable care website at  https://www.healthcare.gov/young-adults/college-students/ to learn about options. You will provide your insurance information on your health form.

Completion of Alcohol-Edu
Alcohol Edu is a comprehensive, online alcohol education program that the University requires all first-year and transfer students to complete over the summer. You will receive an e-mail through your Elon e-mail address by July 15 with instructions to access and complete Alcohol Edu. Part 1 must be completed by August 15 (graduate students are exempted from this requirement). Students will be prompted to complete Part II 45-60 days after completing Part I. The course consists of two parts that take approximately two to three hours to complete. If you have questions about Alcohol Edu, please e-mail Whitney Gregory, Assistant Dean of Students.

Completion of HAVEN Program
Haven is an online education program that provides training for all students on issues associated with sexual assault, relationship violence, and stalking. Completion of this program is required of new students–undergraduate, graduate, Collegiate Start, and other. You will receive an e-mail through your Elon e-mail address by July 15 with instructions. You must complete the program no later than August 15.

Please be attentive to these and other pre-matriculation requirements so your transition to Elon is a smooth one. I would recommend you spend time reviewing important University websites including the Health Services, Counseling Services, Campus Recreation and Health Promotion websites.  You will also want to sign up to access your PhoenixHealth patient portal. We also recommend for up to date information about  health  and wellness you follow us on social media: Facebook @elonuniversitystudenthealthandwellness and Phoenix Connect.

While these specific requirements are related to Student Health and Wellness, you will also receive information throughout the summer about additional pre-matriculation requirements.  Please note that all future communication about these requirements and other pieces of University business . As a student, you are responsible for checking that e-mail account often (I recommend daily) so you can be assured you are ready to matriculate and arrive on campus in August! On behalf of the Student Health and Wellness leadership team, we look forward to working with you during your time at Elon.

Yours in  health and wellness,

Jana Lynn Patterson, PhD.
