Hatcher interviewed for report on local broadcast news legend Lee Kinard

Anthony Hatcher, associate professor of communications, offered his thoughts on the impact of Lee Kinard, who spent more than five decades as a member of the news team at local CBS affiliate WFMY and died Oct. 20.

A recent report about the impact on journalists by the late Lee Kinard included insights from Anthony Hatcher, associate professor of communications.

Hatcher watched Kinard, who was a fixture at CBS affiliate WFMY News 2 for more than five decades, during the time he was a student at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and as a young reporter in North Carolina. Kinard, who retired in 1999, died Oct. 20 at the age of 86.

“I admire the fact that he was one of those pioneers that loved the profession,” Hatcher told WFMY for their Oct. 22 report. “I got the impression that Lee Kinard cared enough about what he did for a living, that he did his homework, he did his research. He cared enough about the audience that he wanted to be right.”
