Elon names director of Gender and LGBTQ Center

Matthew Antonio Bosch currently directs GLBTA programs at the University of Minnesota.

Matthew Antonio Bosch has been named director of Elon’s new Gender and LGBTQ Center. He will begin his work in mid-July. Bosch comes to Elon from the University of Minnesota, where he has served as director of the GLBTA Programs Office within the Office for Equity and Diversity.
 
“We are very excited about the energy, expertise and national perspective Matthew Antonio will bring to further equity and inclusion at Elon,” said Smith Jackson, vice president for student life and dean of students.

“In our new Gender and LGBTQ Center, Matthew Antonio will work to advance education, awareness and dialogue about sexual orientation,gender identity and the intersections of identities across Elon, both in and out of the classroom,” said Brooke Barnett, interim provost for inclusive community.
 
Prior to his work at the University of Minnesota, Bosch served more than five years as chief diversity officer at Minnesota’s North Hennepin Community College. He began his career working in residence life positions at Macalester College and the University of Minnesota.
 
Bosch has served as president of the Minnesota College Personnel Association and currently serves on the governing board of the American College Personnel Association.
 
Involved in LGBTQ athletic leagues and non-profit organizations, Bosch was also recently named one of the “Top 25 Latino Leaders in Minnesota” by the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. Through academic courses and departmental trainings, he has trained thousands of college students and employees on LGBTQ topics and identities.
 
Bosch has a master’s degree in higher education from Harvard University, a bachelor’s degree in linguistics and psychology from Cornell University and a certificate in entrepreneurship for communities of color from North Hennepin Community College.
