Professor Thomas Erdmann in the Department of Music had an article published in the March 2014 issue of the International Trumpet Guild Journal. The article, “Master And Mentor: An Interview With Jimmy Owens,” chronicles National Endowment for the Arts 2012 Jazz Master trumpeter and flugelhornist Jimmy Owens.
Owens was the first ever A.B. Spellman NEA Jazz Master for Jazz Advocacy. His work was cited by the NEA in the following manner: “(Owens’) involvement as an advocate regarding the rights of jazz artists led to the founding of the Jazz Musician’s Emergency Fund, a program of the Jazz Foundation of America.”
