Across the College, undergraduates achieved great success in 2024-25 by receiving national scholarships and prizes, completing high-quality undergraduate research with faculty mentors, publishing articles and presenting at conferences. These are some highlights from the year.

Jacob Karty ’26 awarded Goldwater Scholarship

Jacob Karty ’26 was named a 2025 Goldwater Scholarship recipient, awarded by the Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation, to pursue research careers in the natural sciences, mathematics and engineering. Karty is a double major in engineering and computer science.

Samantha Hinton ’25 awarded NIH Undergraduate Scholarship

Samantha Hinton ’25 received a scholarship through the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Undergraduate Scholarship Program. Along with up to $20,000, she will spend a year conducting NIH research. Hinton is a double major in public health and political science.

Margo Buchanan ’25 selected for Fulbright U.S. Student Program

Margo Buchanan ’25 was selected for the Fulbright U.S. Student Program to teach English, conduct research or earn a graduate degree abroad. Buchanan is a double major in theatrical design & technology and political science.

Lillian Argabrite ’26 wins service leadership award

Lillian Argabrite ’26 received the North Carolina Campus Engagement Community Impact Student Award for serving as a Change Makers scholar, participating in Elon Volunteers and working at the Elon Campus Kitchen. Argabrite is a biology major.

Six selected as Year of Service Fellows for Alamance County partnerships

Juliana Buter ’25, Samantha Hinton ’25, Abigail Lee ’25, Anna Matawaran ’25, Aniya Scott ’25 and Jasmine Walker ’25 were selected as 2025-26 Year of Service Fellows by Elon University. They will spend the year after graduation working in community agencies to make Alamance County healthier and more prosperous.

Abigail Hunninghake ’25 and Tiffany Bui ‘25 win biology research awards

Abigail Hunninghake ’25 received the N.C. Academy of Science’s John Bowley Derieux Research Award (first place in microbiology), at the academy’s sprint meeting. Tiffany Bui ‘25 won first place in ecology, botany and zoology.
