Department of Mathematics and Statistics, Visiting Assistant Professor

Elon University invites applications for a three-year full-time Visiting Assistant Professor position in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, beginning mid-August 2024. The successful candidate will have a doctoral degree earned by August 2024 in mathematics, applied mathematics, or a related field.  Applicants must demonstrate the potential for excellence in teaching in a liberal arts setting, a strong desire to strengthen their teaching skills, and enthusiasm for mentoring students. We welcome applicants with all research specializations to apply, but preference will be given to those with expertise in applied mathematics.

Primary teaching responsibilities will include teaching six courses per year in courses such as Calculus I-III, Differential Equations, Mathematical Modeling, and Numerical Analysis.  Responsibilities also include teaching courses in support of students across the university (such as introductory statistics and business calculus) and courses in the Elon Core Curriculum. Visiting faculty have the opportunity to mentor students in undergraduate research and participate in departmental activities. In support of the scholarship of teaching, visiting faculty are eligible for the offerings of Elon’s Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning and the Center for Engaged Learning.
