The Department of Mathematics & Statistics provides financial assistance to incoming students who have an interest in majoring in mathematics, applied mathematics, or statistics.

Requirements: The department will award up to two $2000 scholarships to students who demonstrate financial need. First generation college students and students from culturally or socioeconomically diverse populations are encouraged to apply. The scholarship recipient must successfully complete at least one math or statistics course in fall and spring of their first year at Elon, at least one of which should be MTH 1510, STS 2120, or higher MTH or STS class. The recipient must participate in the Elon Math/Statistics Mentorship program managed by the Mathematics and Statistics Department.

The Elon Math/Stats Mentorship program requires scholarship recipients to:

  1. attend monthly speaker events
  2. meet monthly with an assigned faculty mentor
  3. attend one math or statistics conference (this will be financially supported by the department)

If you have issues accessing the application or have questions regarding this program please contact Dr. Crista Arangala (Chair of the Elon University Department of Mathematics and Statistics) at ccoles@elon.edu.

This is a one year scholarship. Students will be encouraged to apply for additional scholarships offered by the department at the end of their first year. If a student receives scholarships or grants from sources other than Elon University and the combination of all scholarships and grants exceeds the cost of attendance (tuition, fees, room and board plus Elon’s annual estimate for books, transportation, and miscellaneous expenses), the amount in excess of this cost of attendance will be used to reduce the amount of Elon University scholarships awarded to this student.
