Experiential Learning through Practicum and Internships

Students complete both Practicum and Internship experiences as essential components of their professional preparation. The Practicum takes place during the Fall term of the second year of study, providing students with closely supervised, hands-on counseling experience in a clinical setting. The Internship follows during the final Spring term, immediately prior to graduation, allowing students to deepen their clinical skills and apply their learning in real-world environments.

Internships typically require an average of 40 hours per week in a clinical mental health setting, supervised by qualified site supervisors and Elon University faculty. These experiences ensure that students are well prepared for professional counseling roles upon graduation and meet the experiential requirements for state and national licensure.
