Elon University Physician Assistant Studies Program in Charlotte Policies
Selected policies from the Elon University Department of Physician Assistant Studies Student Handbook are presented below. For more detailed information please see the student handbook.
Program Policies of Interest to Prospective Students
Students may not be Employed by the PA Program
PA students are not required to work for the program.
While a student may be invited by a faculty member to share their expertise in a specific area with their classmates, a student may not substitute for or function as an instructional faculty. During supervised clinical experiences, students may not substitute for clinical or administrative staff.
Student Employment While Enrolled in the Program
Due to the rigor of the didactic and clinical education phases of the PA Program, as well as the demanding schedule, outside employment is strongly discouraged. If a student decides to maintain employment during their program of study, work schedule conflicts are not an acceptable excuse for missing academic activities. Clinical rotation assignments will not be scheduled to accommodate a student’s employment.
Identification at Clinical Sites
All students will be provided with a university identification badge, including name and photo, clearly identifying each student as an Elon Charlotte physician assistant (PA) student. Students are required to always wear these badges when participating in PA professional functions such as health fairs or when in patient care areas. In clinical practice settings, students must identify themselves as PA students to patients and health care practitioners. Badges should not be worn outside of program-related activities (e.g., during personal time, non-professional social events).
Students Not Required to Provide Sites for Clinical Rotations
Students are not required to provide or solicit clinical sites or preceptors.
Student Travel to Required Rotation Sites
It is the student’s responsibility to identify reliable transportation to get to and from supervised clinical practice experience rotations. The program has made efforts to develop clinical sites that will best support students’ learning. These rotation sites are located in Charlotte, throughout North Carolina, and around the nation. Students should expect to travel for multiple clinical rotations. Depending on the distance, airfare may be a necessary cost. Students are not guaranteed placement within a 60-mile radius of Elon Charlotte campus.
Some rotations may require travel between multiple locations. If alternative forms of transportation are considered (i.e., public transportation, ride shares), students are encouraged to inquire and plan ahead.
Students are responsible for arranging and for the cost of transportation, housing, and other living expenses during all clinical education experiences. An estimate of the costs associated with travel to clinical sites is included on the Tuition and Fees page.
Refunds of Tuition and Fees
Tuition reimbursement will be in accordance with the institution’s refund policy.
