At Elon, we recognize that well-being is not a destination but an ongoing process shaped by growth, reflection, connection and balance. Because every individual’s experiences, values and goals are unique, there is no single path to thriving. HealthEU (HEU) courses are designed to help students develop the knowledge, skills and wellness practices that support lifelong well-being.
Offered through the Dr. Jo Watts Williams School of Education, these one- and two-credit academic experiences provide opportunities to explore topics related to community, emotional, financial, physical, purpose and social well-being while examining the interconnected nature of health, wellness and well-being.
HEU courses encourage students to reflect on what well-being means to them and develop practical strategies that support academic success, personal growth and future aspirations. Through hands-on activities, discussion, reflection and experiential learning, students gain tools they can apply in their daily lives while exploring the factors that influence individual and community well-being.
No matter the topic, courses help students build lifelong skills, strengthen healthy habits and connect classroom learning to their personal, academic and professional goals.
Course offerings vary by semester based on student interest and instructor availability, allowing students to explore a diverse range of topics and perspectives throughout their time at Elon.

Faculty and staff play an important role in advancing Elon’s commitment to health and well-being. HEU courses provide an opportunity to share expertise, engage students in meaningful learning experiences and contribute to a campus culture that supports personal growth and lifelong well-being.
Each fall, HealthEU and the Dr. Jo Watts Williams School of Education invite proposals for HEU courses for the following academic year. Courses may explore one or more dimensions of well-being and are encouraged to incorporate experiential learning, discussion, reflection and the development of practical wellness skills.
Eligible instructors must hold a master’s degree or a bachelor’s degree with demonstrated expertise and receive approval from their supervisor or department chair. Instructors receive a stipend and ongoing support throughout the course development process.
Teaching an HEU course offers a unique opportunity to help students connect academic learning with everyday life while developing the knowledge, habits and skills that support their well-being during college and beyond.
