Elon College presents medallion to retired dean

ELON COLLEGE – For his service and loyalty to Elon College, W. Jennings Berry Jr. recently was honored by the college.

On August 18, Berry was presented the Elon Medallion, which is given to individuals who in some official capacity have rendered outstanding service to the college and are distinguished by the unusual length and quality of their service.

Berry began his career with Elon College in 1957 and during the next 37 years he served as associate professor of English, registrar, dean of men, eean of students and director of academic advising.

As an English professor, Berry, a 1950 graduate of Elon College, instilled a love and appreciation of literature in his students. While an administrator, he brought a methodical, caring approach to each task and as an academic advisor, he worked closely with students.

Throughout his career, Berry was a strong and supportive mentor and consistently extended his hand and heart to his staff.
