ELON COLLEGE-Local residents Jennings Berry and Lucile Stone recently received the Elon Medallion for their service to the college. The medallion is given to individuals who in some official capacity have rendered outstanding service to the college and are distinguished by the unusual length and quality of their service.
Jennings Berry, a 1950 graduate of Elon, was recognized for his 37-year career with the college. The Elon College resident served in several capacities, including associate professor of English, registrar, dean of men, dean of students and director of academic advising.
Lucile Stone has had a 30-year career with the college, first as an assistant professor of education and most recently as college decorator. Before coming to Elon, she was an elementary school teacher and principal. The Burlington resident also wrote a third-grade spelling textbook adopted by schools nationwide.
