Relay to Rhodes Stadium will follow Elon football game Nov. 4

A relay to carry the game ball from Burlington Memorial Stadium to Rhodes Stadium, which will open in September 2001, is planned following Elon’s homecoming football game against Liberty University on Saturday, Nov. 4. All members of the local and campus communities are invited to the Rhodes Stadium construction site immediately following the game to join Elon president Leo M. Lambert and trustee Dusty Rhodes as they begin the Countdown to Kickoff. Rhodes Stadium will host its first game Sept. 15, 2001 against Eastern Kentucky University.

Saturday’s game will be Elon’s final contest at Burlington Memorial Stadium, which has been home to Elon football since 1949. When the game ends, the new Phoenix mascot will receive the game ball and hand it off to members of the Elon cross country team. They will carry the ball in a relay to the new stadium.
