Mixed Company presents “Driving Miss Daisy” at Elon, Feb. 15

Mixed Company, one of America’s premier small repertory companies, will perform the popular drama “Driving Miss Daisy” at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 15 in McCrary Theatre, located on the Elon campus in the Faith Rockefeller Model Center for the Arts. The performance is sponsored by Elon’s Black Cultural Society and the Office of Cultural Programs.

“Driving Miss Daisy” chronicles the 25-year friendship between a stubborn, aging Southern widow and her loyal chauffeur. At first, the self-sufficient Miss Daisy is reluctant to accept the services of a chauffeur, but as the years pass the unlikely friends develop a deep mutual respect and admiration. “Driving Miss Daisy” became a hit at the big screen box office as well, winning an Academy Award for Best Picture in 1989.

Mixed Company was founded in 1993 and is led by Leonard Stephenson, who has appeared at Elon twice before in productions of “My Children, My Africa” and “Valley Song.”

Tickets for the production are $10 or free with Elon identification. Tickets may be purchased by calling the McCrary Theatre box office at (336) 278-5610. The box office is open between 12:30 p.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
