Auditions for “When You Comin’ Back, Red Rider?”

There will be auditions for Mark Medoff’s, “When You Comin’ Back, Red Rider?” He also wrote “Children of a Lesser God”. The play will be directed by Professor Richard Gang.

This is a gritty contemporary realistic play about a man who terrorizes several people at a sleepy New Mexican Truck Stop. It has adult themes and actions. The play will be presented on Jan. 22nd-25th and Feb. 4-8, 2004. Note that if you are cast you will receive 4 credits for an upper level THE elective and will NOT be able to take any other courses during Winter term.

Audition Requirement: A one to two minute dramatic contemporary monologue. There is a sign-up sheet for a three minute appointment on Professor Gang’s door at Model 211B.

The Characters:

Stephen (aka Red) A young man, late teens to early twenties….somewhat slow, perhaps learning disabled. He is the dishwasher, a comic book reader, cigarette smoker with dreams of going to the big city.

Angel: A few years older than Stephen, she is a large character woman, the waitress at the truck stop. Has a crush on Steven.

A somewhat sad figure of a human being.

Lyle: Operator of the truck stop…any age. Is disabled from previous military service.

Clark: Smaller role, owner of the truck stop….all business….to the point of being nasty and uncaring.

Clarisse: Young professional violinist, shy, naive…part is written to have very brief toplessness or fondling-this will be handled very, very delicately and according to the needs and comfort of whoever wins the role.

Richard: Clarisse’s very domineering control freak boyfriend/manager, both he and Clarisse are tourists and from the Big City.

Teddy: A fabulously colorful role, but an evil man. He is a crook, smuggler and general badass who takes control of these folks lives for a whole day. Stage combat involved.

Cheryl: the young chippie who rides with Teddy…probably started as a hitchhiker…she is with Teddy, but doesn’t enjoy when he bullies and teases the others.
