More than 40 students helped produce six hours of live election night coverage, “Vote2004 from Phoenix14News,” on Tuesday, Nov. 2.
Throughout the evening, students covered local and national races, reporting results and interviewing local figures for their perspective on the election.
Elon President Emeritus Earl Danieley was a guest on the program, discussing the history of student political involvement at Elon. Provost Gerry Francis discussed the Elon Center for Civic Engagement. Town of Elon Mayor Beth Schmidt was also interviewed during the coverage.
David Douglas, news director for Phoenix14News, said the coverage went exceptionally well.
“I am so proud of the accomplishments of our entire staff,” said Douglas. “Every single team members was instrumental in pulling off something remarkable.” Douglas said he believes Phoenix14News’ six hours of live coverage on election night is unprecedented in college and university television.
Graphic designer and animator P.J. Buckley created more than 15 new animations for the project and refreshed the Phoenix14News graphics to give them an election night look.
