Jennifer Platania, assistant professor of economics, is working with colleagues at Mercer University and the ERS Group in Tallahassee, Fla., to develop computer software that makes predictions on a wide range of consumer topics.
Platania is working with Allen Lynch, an economist at Mercer University in Macon, Ga., and Mike DuMond, an economist with the ERS Group, to develop the software.
They have developed a prediction model for the software, testing it by forecasting the college choices of the country’s top 100 high school football recruits. Although the model is for fun, it could have applications for businesses trying to determine what appeals to customers.
