Ward-Johnson’s article appears in magazine

An article by Frances Ward-Johnson, associate professor in the School of Communications, recently appeared in the Fall edition of The Public Relations Strategist, a magazine published by the Public Relations Society of America.

The article featured interviews with a group of public relations practitioners from around the country discussing the current state of diversity in the PR profession. With varied backgrounds, the practitioners have more than 70 years of combined experience in PR firms, corporations, and nonprofit organizations. Their overall consensus: The PR profession has a long way to go before it mirrors the diversity of the U.S. population; corporations are doing a better job than agencies in recruiting diverse employees; and mentoring is crucial for practitioners of color.
