Reminder to Senior Students: February 2, 2006
The Career Center offers student resources through its web site, www.elon.edu/careers, that are very useful in learning about opportunities after graduation and preparing for a job search. Please look at the following options:
1. CALENDAR Review our calendar for upcoming events, workshops and organizations recruiting on campus.
2. ELON JOB NETWORK From the Career Center home page, just click on “Register for the Elon Job Network,” enter the student section and click “register.” Make up your own ID and Password, and complete the registration. You can then review jobs and internships listed just for Elon, and receive email notices from the Career Center. You can also search for mentors in your area of interest. The password for the Mentor section is “Mentor.”
Note: If you forget your ID or password, call the Career Center at 6538. Do not re-register.
3. NEW! OPTIMAL RESUME For step-by-step help writing your resume, click on the blue box labeled “Optimal Resume.” It will lead you through the writing process with samples for each section and produce formats that you can save as an html (web) and a Word file. You can then upload the Word file resume to EJN. Elon employers conducted more than 1500 resume searches last year.
4. NEW! CAREER SEARCH The Career Search site is now open to all students. Just enter http://www.careersearch.net/v2/client. When the page opens, click “Create an Account Now” under “New Users.” Enter “Elon06” as the client referral, your Elon email as your ID, and create a Password. Then, complete the registration. You can access the program as a registered user whenever you want.
With Career Search, you can search employers by industry and geographic area – and save your own files of employers complete with contact information. You will also find employer web sites where you can search current job openings. There are many other features, including IT Department searches, International Searches, a Salary Wizard and Nations of the World.
The site is limited in the number of users who can log on at one time. If you don’t connect immediately, wait a few minutes and try again.
5. THE CAREER CENTER We strongly encourage you to use the Career Center for resume editing and help with your job, internship or graduate school search. The Career Center is located in the Duke 101 suite, next to Alamance. Hours are 9:00 to 5:00 every weekday. Visit the front desk or call 6538 to make an appointment.
We look forward to seeing you soon.
