Elon University journalism and communication students took home top honors at the 2006 Broadcast Education Association award ceremony held Wednesday, April 26 in Las Vegas.
The university’s awards include first place in the nation for individual student newscast. This is the second consecutive year Elon students have taken home the organization’s top newscast award. Elon competed against 39 other universities for the honor.
Senior David Douglas also received a second-place award for his television news feature “Setting the Stage.” Junior Brian Formica also placed as a national finalist in the organization’s sports anchor competition.
“These awards are a reflection of how Elon’s academic programs and hands-on educational experiences work together to ensure our students’ success,” said Linda Lashendock, ESTV adviser and assistant director of Instructional Technology. “I am immensely proud of our student’s achievements this year, they work so hard and with so much passion.”
Earlier this month, Elon’s student-run game show “Win Stuff” was also awarded first place by BEA in the catagory of mixed programming.
There were more than 200 student and faculty entries for this year’s BEA competition.
The Broadcast Education Association is an organization for academic faculty and staff who work to support the future of broadcast journalism through active participation in all phases of the educational process.
