Faculty team attends summer institute on general education

An Elon University faculty team attended the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) Summer Institute on General Education at Catholic University in Washington, D.C., June 9-14. The Elon team attended sessions with colleagues from 30 other colleges and universities from across the country.

Elon faculty attending the institute were Janet Warman, director of general studies; Nancy Midgette, associate provost; Jean Schwind, associate professor of English; Jeffrey Coker, assistant professor of biology; and Tom Mould, assistant professor of sociology and anthropology. The Elon team attended workshops and presentations on assessment and began to develop a comprehensive assessment plan for the university’s General Studies program.

“The quality of the information presented by institute faculty and the energy and dedication of the Elon team made this experience an incredible faculty development opportunity for us,” said Warman. “This is a solid first step in Elon’s General Studies assessment initiative.”
