Jordan Center buildings razed as work continues on The Oaks

Workers have torn down Jordan Center as construction of Elon's newest student residential complex, The Oaks, continues. Details...

Jordan Center was built in 1980 and was originally intended to be a temporary housing facility. Workers began tearing down Jordan Center buildings June 1 to make way for The Oaks, a 500-bed student residence complex along Williamson Avenue, opposite Koury Center and the Center for the Arts.

The Oaks complex will include six residence hall buildings plus a commons building. The apartment configurations include units with two single bedrooms, two baths, a living room and kitchen; and units with four single bedrooms, two baths, a living room and kitchen. All units include furniture, with washers and dryers and full access to the campus computer network.

The clubhouse is designed to include a living room, meeting rooms, a community kitchen and offices. The site plan also includes a total of 700 parking spaces, an outdoor basketball court and a picnic area.

The first four buildings, which will be available for students to move in Aug. 22, will house 348 students. The final two buildings will be available Feb. 1, 2007, and will house 168 students.
