New coordinator of substance education joins staff

Please welcome the newest member of the Division of Student Life, our new coordinator for substance education, Lauren Martin.

Lauren comes to Elon from UNC-Chapel Hill, where she received her master’s degree. She received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from N.C. State University. Lauren has a Certificate in Substance Abuse and gained valuable experience working at the Center for Healthy Student Behaviors at UNC, where she taught alcohol education classes, DWI classes, and also performed individual assessments with students.

Lauren’s other work experience includes working at a suicide crisis line where she feels she gained experience working with people in all types of crises. She loves working with college students and encouraging them to make healthy choices.

In her new position as coordinator for substance education for Elon, Lauren hopes to encourage students to make low-risk choices by researching and implementing a social norms campaign. She is also excited about the opportunity to work with our great group of peer educators who are already doing great work to promote low-risk behaviors on our campus. Overall, Lauren is passionate about promoting healthy behaviors, women’s issues, and social justice.

In her free time, Lauren enjoys running, reading, baking and spending time with her partner and her new puppy, Dexter.

You may contact Lauren at 278-7285 or lmartin10@elon.edu to learn more about upcoming initiatives. Her office is in Koury Center 154.
