Documentary, performance on death of anti-Mafia activist, Feb. 18

Anthony Fragola, film professor and author at UNC-Greensboro, and Jay McMerty, senior video producer at Elon, join musician Michaela Musolino, right, in a premiere and performance of the documentary “Un bellissimo ricordo” (“A Beautiful Memory”) at 7 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 18 in room 011 of the McEwen School of Communications building. This event is free and open to the public.

“Un bellissimo ricordo” examines the life, death and legacy of Giuseppe “Peppino” Impastato, an anti-mafia youth activist and Sicilian radio personality who was murdered by the mafia in May 1978 at age 30.

In addition to the film and discussion Musolino will perform traditional and original compositions in the Sicilian folk-roots tradition, accompanied by members of the music Americana ensemble Mebanesville.
