Beta Gamma Sigma Celebrates Founder’s Day

A photo of tom mac mahonThe Beta Gamma Sigma business honor society celebrated its Founder’s Day with a reception and keynote speech in the Ernest A. Koury, Sr. Business Center on Tuesday, Feb. 20.

Tom Mac Mahon, chairman and former chief executive officer of LabCorp, spoke to students, faculty and staff about the four qualities of great leadership. He told the audience that all leaders should find strong mentors; surround themselves with smart people; take responsibility; and value interpersonal communication. Mac Mahon was also inducted to Elon’s chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma as an honorary member.

After the ceremony, Dean John Burbridge announced that Mac Mahon will be the first executive-in-residence for the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business. Mac Mahon will visit campus regularly to speak with classes and participate in other events.

Beta Gamma Sigma was founded in 1913 as the first national business honor society. There are more than 500,000 members worldwide.
